Arne Slot has urged Santiago Giménez to continue at Feyenoord amid claims of interest from Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace and others. He said this during an interview with the club’s channel, relayed by FR12.nl.
Three days ago, we relayed multiple claims made in Mexico that the Seagulls are in the picture to sign the striker. The Eagles have also been thrown into the mix.
It’s no surprise to see reports linking the 21-year-old to Brighton, Crystal Palace, Benfica, FC Porto and several other clubs.
The Mexico international arrived at the Eredivisie side from Cruz Azul last summer and has had an instant impact at the Eredivisie side. The attacker has scored 17 goals and registered three assists from 36 matches in all competitions this season.
“I would very much like to see Santiago stay with Feyenoord even longer. It would be very good for him to stay an extra year and I will give him that advice, but it is difficult for me to assess what his will is and what opportunities he can get,” Slot said.
“Giménez can do much better. He is 21 years old and has only been with us for six months in another competition and in another continent. It would be special if a player of 21 years old were already at his peak, I don’t think that is likely.
“We are working on making him as complete as possible. We first tried to get him fitter, which worked out quite well. He is getting better and better. He already had the qualities he had in the beginning. Now we are not only trying to make him an all-rounder, but also to use him better.”
