Brighton and Hove Albion could ‘intervene at the last minute’ for Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer this summer.
Sky Sport Austria reports that there is still a danger Brighton could enter the picture at the last minute as Hoffenheim close in on the 25-year-old.
Hoffenheim move close
The website explains that Patrick Wimmer is currently on the verge of joining TSG Hoffenheim. According to their information, the winger has reached an agreement in principle on a contract with the Kraichgau club.
Hoffenheim also informed VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday that they intend to activate the 25-year-old’s €10m release clause. He is expected to undertake a medical examination on Wednesday before signing a deal until 2031.
Wimmer will then travel to San Francisco with the Austrian national team on Thursday, ahead of the World Cup.
But while the transfer is at an advanced stage, a signature is still pending. And, as a result, it is not out of the question that Brighton could intervene at the last minute and snatch the deal.
Brighton interest
The Seagulls have been interested in the winger since last year. Sport Witness covered a report back in June last year stating that they had a contract on the table ready to sign him. It was explained at the time that Fabian Hurzeler was a big fan of the player.
A report in July then explained that he had snubbed Brighton in favour of a move to RB Leipzig.
That move didn’t happen, though, and he ended up staying at Wolfsburg instead. Now a move to Hoffenheim appears to be on the cards.
But everyone is nervously looking over their shoulders, waiting to see if Brighton come in at the last minute.
They, as a Premier League club, could make an offer to Patrick Wimmer that could turn his head and direction despite the agreement with Hoffenheim being in place.
