For the past week or so, reports coming out of Belgium have said Brighton & Hove Albion having a keen interest in Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

The Netherlands U21 international admitted earlier this week that the reports linking him to the Seagulls make him proud but insisted his focus is on the European championship.

La Dernière Heure state the 20-year-old has ‘secured his departure’ after his latest ‘five-star’ display for Jong Oranje. Brighton are the only club mentioned in the report.

It’s said Roberto De Zerbi’s side have come ‘closest’ to paying the €20m fee requested by the Jupiler Pro League side. DH makes it clear the Seagulls haven’t yet reached an agreement for the stopper’s transfer.

After Verbruggen starred against Belgium U21, the report says Anderlecht won’t offer any discounts to Brighton, while they ‘won’t raise the price either’.

Anderlecht CEO Jesper Fredberg has said the club will make new signings and also confirmed there will be a few exits in this window.

“I promise there will be transfers by the start of the season. There will also be departures, but we will have a good team. We will be ready, there is no doubt about that,” he said, as quoted by DH.

“We are not going to change the whole team, but there will be something new. However, we will only make transfers if a possible new player is stronger than what we have. We have to build a team of which we can be proud.”
