Brighton and Hove Albion striker Deniz Undav will not be joining Schalke in January, as he wants to fight for his place in the Premier League.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the rumour of a potential move to Schalke today and insist ‘there is currently nothing to it’.
Undav has been with Brighton since the summer when he joined from Union SG after the Seagulls secured a €7m deal in January last year.
His time on the south coast has not been a happy one so far, though, with him managing just eight appearances in the Premier League and no goals to date.
That’s a severe change from last season when he started 33 games for Union in the Jupiler Pro League last season, scoring 25 goals.
He has subsequently been linked with a move away from Brighton next month, with Schalke reportedly interested as they look to bolster their forward line.
BILD say ‘there is currently nothing’ in that rumour, however, despite Undav being a ‘self-confessed’ Schalke supporter.
Despite the rumours ‘circulating’, the newspaper has learned that the striker first ‘wants to find his way in the Premier League’. Thus, he is not interested in a move to Germany.
That, then, should put an end to his particular rumour for the time being, although perhaps that will change if his situation doesn’t improve in the next few weeks.
