Portuguese outlet Antena 1 features today an interview with Southampton right-back Cedric Soares.

Since the hot topic in the local sports media is the transfers of Gedson Fernandes and Bruno Fernandes, who are expected to leave Benfica and Sporting for Tottenham and Manchester United, the rumours were obviously mentioned in the conversation.

“I know both of them. They are very good players, I’m sure if they come they have a lot to add and to increase our Portuguese community here in England,” said Cedric, even laughing a bit, probably because he knew he’d be quizzed about it.

Antena 1 insisted a little asking what these players can add to their new clubs, but Cedric didn’t seem like he wanted to get too involved in this topic.

“Yes, they are very high quality players. I crossed them many times and worked with both of them. More even with Bruno. They are very high quality players, no doubt, I think they will have a bright future wherever they go, in whatever country. And I’m sure if they come here, they’ll be successful.”

Cedric has also talked about a few other topics in the interview. He praised Southampton’s form, saying he expects the team to keep it up for longer, after struggling at the start of the season.

The 28-year-old also praised former teammates Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane for the achievements they’ve been having at Liverpool. And when asked about the Lisbon derby which will be played on Friday, he’s admitted he’ll be supporting Sporting, the club who he played for before moving to Southampton in 2015.

Gedson will almost certainly be a Tottenham player before then, whilst Sporting are trying to keep Bruno out of Manchester United’s clutches until after the Benfica match.
