The Spanish media today reports the collapse in the talks for Assane Diao’s move from Real Betis to Brentford.

Outlet El Desmarque writes that the player’s sale is ‘stalled’ since the Bees couldn’t find a a personal agreement with the winger’s entourage.

It’s said that those around Diao asked for a very high salary, which Brentford ‘did not accept’ to pay.

So even though the player’s exit from Betis had been considered ‘closed’, it’s now said to be ‘very complicated’.

A big turnaround is still considered possible, with the player potentially lowering his demands, but that’s seen as an unlikely scenario, with him expected to in Spain for the rest of the season.

Betis wanted the €30m from the release clause to let Diao go, but Brentford didn’t even make the official offer, as they couldn’t reach an agreement with the player.

The outlet claims the talks have therefore ‘run aground’. The player’s entourage is led by his father, and unless they completely change their minds about the requests, this transfer should be forgotten for now.
