Brentford have made an official move for Brazilian centre-back Iago Teodoro, but the Premier League club currently trail Orlando City in the race for his signature.
Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte reports that Brentford submitted an official €3m bid for the defender. Flamengo received the proposal in recent days and are now reviewing the situation before taking a final decision on the player’s future.
However, the report adds that Orlando City have moved faster. The MLS side made their approach last week and pushed talks forward over recent days. Their proposal matches the €3m figure and involves the purchase of 80% of Iago Teodoro’s economic rights, which has placed them in pole position.
Brentford are not alone in the chase. The defender has also entered the radar of Al-Qadsiah, who have shown strong interest from Saudi Arabia. Even so, sources in Brazil currently see the American club as the frontrunners to complete the deal.
RTI Esporte also reports that Flamengo have already aligned key points of the transfer. The club now wait for final approval from president, who recently returned from a trip and is due to meet sporting director José Boto.
Brentford interest lingering for a while
Brentford’s interest is not new. As we covered in late 2025, the same outlet had already linked the club with Iago Teodoro. They highlighted the complexity of any potential deal due to Flamengo’s ownership structure and a high release clause, which pushed discussions towards a longer-term scenario rather than an immediate move. Looks like it’s not the case anymore.
In the end, Flamengo are analysing not only the fee, but also the structure of the operation. Iago Teodoro remains under contract until December 2026, and while Brentford’s move keeps the English side firmly in contention, Orlando City currently lead the process.
