Brentford could attempt the signing of Morten Hjulmand from Lecce, according to reports from Italy.
This chase is today revealed by outlet Calcio Lecce, who talks about the interest the 23-year-old has been drawing in the transfer market.
Hjulmand is set to make his debut for the Danish national team this week, as he was called up for the place that former Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen used to hold.
And when speaking of the player’s future, the website points out he has ‘admirers’ coming from the Premier League.
It’s recalled that a bid from Southampton had already been turned down by Lecce in January, but it’s now Brentford who ‘could present a concrete offer’ for the player.
The story points out that the Bees stand in a more interesting position than the Saints in the Premier League, looking for a place in European competitions, and that could end up making them a more attractive destination for the midfielder.
But Brentford should still face more competition for the signing, because the likes of Atalanta and Roma are also interested in Hjulmand.
The player is currently valued at €12m, which sounds like a fair price for the Bees’ budget, and fits their philosophy of recruiting young and relatively cheap Scandinavian players to bolster Thomas Frank’s squad.
