This summer was a busy one for Brentford as no fewer than 11 new players arrived at the club in a busy transfer window.
The likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Pontus Jansson and Mathias Jensen were just some of the names to join the Championship side as they spent £28.5m to overhaul Thomas Frank’s squad.
One deal they didn’t manage to get over the line, however, was the signing of forward Saman Ghoddos from Amiens.
Brentford had reached terms with the French club for the forward but were unable to agree on personal terms with the 26-year-old, thus ending any chance of a deal happening.
It seems the Bees worked hard on the move, even utilising summer recruit Jansson to try and get things over the line.
Ghoddos is an Iranian international but was born in Sweden, and the centre back admitted to playing an important part in trying to bring his fellow Swede to Griffin Park.
“I was very involved in that transfer,” he told Afton Bladet.
“I tried to convince him to join. It’s sad what happened. He would have been good for us in terms of football. You can take the rest up with him and his agent.”
Jansson is referring to the current situation regarding Ghoddos and his ban from football.
The striker was banned for four months by FIFA earlier this year over a failed move to Huesca in 2018, with former club Östersund also banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows.
The punishment came after Ghoddos failed to move to Brentford, who will now likely be grateful the proposed deal fell through given they’d have been without him for four months had it not.
