Following the injury to Andreas Christensen on Thursday night, Denmark have decided to call up Mathias Jorgensen, more commonly known as Zanka, to replace him.
This is according to the national team’s website, relayed by Ekstrabladet, who explain Kasper Hjulmand chose to called the Brentford FC defender up.
The Bees man will now have a chance to play against Kazakhstan on Sunday, taking the place of the Barcelona player, who came off injured in the 3-1 win over Finland.
This was another blow to their defence, leaving Simon Kjaer and Victor Nelson as the only two natural centre-backs in the squad.
That’s why the Brentford defender has been called in as emergency reinforcement, allowing him to potentially add to his 32 caps.
Zanka was not part of the Denmark squad that took part in the World Cup, with his last appearance for the national team coming in June 2021 in a friendly against Germany.
A great opportunity for the Brentford player, who will be wanting to rectify that in the coming days.
