Brentford midfielder Sergi Canos’ move to Valencia has become ‘complicated’ after Anderlecht and AEK Athens showed an interest in him.
That’s according to journalist Nacho Sanchís, relayed by Estadio Deportivo, who says those two sides have made it difficult for Valencia to get a deal over the line.
He explains that Brentford was ‘very close to agreeing’ a move to the Mestalla, where has long wanted to play, something he has made clear.
A deal appeared to be edging towards a conclusion, with it claimed at the end of last month that the finer details of the deal were being worked on.
That was followed by a report that Canos had told Brentford he wants the move, but it had entered a pause phase because of Valencia’s financial situation.
It seems that pause has allowed two other sides to enter the mix, with Sanchís reporting that Anderlecht and AEK Athens are showing an interest, and this has ‘stopped the operation’ taking him to Valencia.
Their presence ‘greatly complicates’ things for the Spanish club, who are determined to sign the player without paying a transfer fee to Brentford.
Although Canos still prefers to sign for Valencia, the other two suitors are willing to pay for the player and Brentford obviously prefer that option to letting him leave for free.
That’s created an issue as if any club puts money on the table to buy Canos, the only way out for the Valencians would be to match such a proposal. The problem is that they are not in a position to do so.
Thus, the situation has become ‘complicated’, although we’re sure Brentford don’t view things that way given they’re more than happy to let Canos move on this summer.
