Sergi Canós proposed move from Brentford to Valencia has ‘entered a pause phase’ as the Bees demand compensation from any transfer.
That’s according to Plaza Deportiva, who say that Canós has made it clear to Brentford that he wants to leave to join the Spanish side this summer.
They explain that while Canós’ deal was supposed to expire this summer, Brentford have taken up an option to extend it by another year despite the player making it clear he wanted to leave.
Thomas Frank’s side would like to receive ‘some kind of compensation’ for the player, who has been with them since a move from Norwich in 2017.
That’s a problem for Valencia, whose funds are extremely tight and they don’t have the money available for a number of deals.
They’re also targeting Levante’s Pepelu and if they are forced to pay his release clause there is a belief some of the money earmarked for Canós could end up being used in that deal and jeopardise the move from Brentford.
Because of that his deal is now in a ‘waiting period’ as Canós Valencia and Brentford try to resolve their differences and work out something that suits everyone.
Canós, for his part, is currently in his native Nules in Spain, waiting for negotiations to proceed so he can get the move he wants this summer.
