Brentford summer signing Antoni Milambo could be set for an extended injury absence after being left screaming in pain while playing for the Netherlands.

That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who report that the midfielder ‘likely suffered a serious knee injury’.

They explain that the 20-year-old Brentford midfielder ‘appeared to misstep’ after a sliding tackle from a Bosnian player. Milambo is playing for the Dutch U21 team during this international break.

He fell to the ground shortly before halftime and ‘screamed in pain’. He was then carried off the pitch in Sarajevo on a stretcher. The fear is that he’s suffered a serious knee injury.

He wasn’t the only injury in the game either, with Jayden Addai also departing due to a pulled hamstring. Coach Michael Reiziger confirmed after the game that the Brentford man was left in a lot of pain.

“It really affects you when you see the players’ reactions,” he told ESPN.

“Antoni is in a lot of pain right now, and we’re all trying to support him. Every player knows how frustrating an injury is, but we can’t anticipate things yet. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

The injury would be a major blow for Milambo, who joined Brentford from Feyenoord in the summer. He’s only had one knee injury before, in November 2024, which saw him miss five games for club and country and spend 21 days out.

Brentford will now, presumably, look to get him back to assess the injury themselves and decide on the next course of action.
