Brentford midfielder Sergi Canós has rejected a move to Anderlecht and told the Bees he will only join Valencia this summer.
That’s according to Cadena SER, who say Canós has broken the agreement Brentford have reached with Anderlecht by refusing to make the move.
According to their information, the Nules winger has ‘already told’ Brentford that he will only leave London this summer to play for Valencia, who have long been referred to as his dream club.
If that move cannot be done, he has made it clear that he will see out the remaining year of his contract and leave on a free transfer next summer.
That’s left Brentford in a tough situation as Thomas Frank does not want the player in his squad, as was shown last season with the decision to let him join Olympiakos on loan in January.
The club activated an option to extend his contract by a year this summer as they aimed to get a transfer fee for him but the player’s ‘refusal’ to move to a destination other than Valencia is now causing them issues.
Canós has already ‘reached an agreement’ in principle on a three-year deal with the Spanish side and Brentford are now waiting for Valencia to call and ‘find the formula’ that suits both parties.
At the moment the two sides are separated as Brentford want a fee, but Valencia would prefer not to pay and instead give the Bees sell-on clauses and various other bonuses down the line.
Cadena state the same, explaining that Valencia need to offer ‘some gesture of compensation’ to the Premier League side while Canós needs to ‘forgive a small amount’ of his contract to make the move happen.
Further negotiations are needed, then, but his ultimatum to Brentford will surely see an agreement being reached at some point this summer.
