Brentford goalkeeper David Raya’s chances of joining Bayern Munich may have been handed a boost as he is the ‘only candidate’ they are looking at for now.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say the German giants are not exploring other options to replace Manuel Neuer and Yann Sommer.
The goalkeeper position is something of a problem one for Bayern this summer as Neuer is yet to recover from a broken leg and Sommer is expected to join Inter Milan as a replacement for Andre Onana.
With Alexander Nübel also loaned out to VfB Stuttgart it means Bayern could be left without a first-choice goalkeeper, a problem they plan to solve.
Numerous goalkeepers have been linked in the last few weeks, but Sky say that is all just market rumours and the Brentford goalkeeper is the ‘only candidate’ being looked at. Moves for the likes of David de Gea, who has been offered, and Wojciech Szczesny are not being considered.
The big problem on that front is that Bayern can only do a loan deal at this moment in time, something it seems unlikely Brentford would be willing to sanction.
They’ve already signed a replacement for Raya in Mark Flekken, but it is likely they were planning a big sale for the Spaniard given his performances in recent years, particularly in the Premier League.
Thus, sanctioning a loan deal to Bayern would make little sense, unless it included a high loan fee or a mandatory purchase clause for next summer.
