Brentford midfielder Vitaly Janelt is among the ‘secret candidates’ to be a part of Hansi Flick’s next Germany squad.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the 24-year-old can ‘have hopes’ of earning his first international call up after Flick announced he would bring ‘lesser-known players’ into his squad.
The Germany coach is looking for something of a reinvention of his side moving forwards after a disappointing World Cup campaign heaped the pressure on him and the players he selected.
He has publicly made it clear he wants to integrate new faces into his group and it seems Janelt is one of those who could be brought in, with the likes of Malick Thiaw and Mergim Berisha.
Janelt is yet to make his international debut despite having been a regular for their various youth set ups, making two appearances for the U15s, 16 for the U17s, two each for the U19s and U20s and 10 for the U21s.
He’s long been linked with a call up, though, with it claimed before the World Cup that he could have been a surprise call up to the squad for Qatar.
Before that he also detailed how he’d had a conversation with Flick about his international future, having run into the Germany coach when he went to watch him in a clash with Arsenal in February last year.
Those two instances showed that the Brentford man was very much on Flick’s radar, and now it seems he may be finally about to get his call up he’s long been after.
