Brentford have approached Lyon over defender Jake O’Brien in an attempt to ‘study the feasibility’ of moving for him this summer.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that Brentford have stepped forward while the likes of Everton remain in the background on the centre-back.

They report that after the likes of Everton, West Ham and Wolves had expressed an interest in O’Brien after his impressive performances for the French side over the last year, a new club have entered the race and that is Brentford.

According to FM’s information, the Bees are keen to add to their defensive line this summer and have ‘checked the name’ of the defender and contacted Lyon.

This appears to have been an initial inquiry with the Ligue 1 side to ‘study the possibility of a transfer’ in the coming weeks. There’s no mention on how Lyon responded to this.

Brentford are not the only side keen, though, as Everton are very much still in the mix and remain interested in him.

Indeed, they had considered a move in January that might have involved loanee Arnaut Danjuma going to Lyon as part of the operation but that never came to fruition and O’Brien remained where he was.

The Toffees have not given up, though, and could quickly join the battle for the Irishman if Brentford go beyond their initial request for information.
