Brentford have been in contact with HSV Hamburg defender Mario Vuskovic’s agent about a possible move this summer.
That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt, who back up reports from elsewhere in Germany that the Bees are interested in the defender.
Earlier today, we covered a report from Hamburger Morgenpost that stated Brentford had joined the race for Vuskovic, following in the footsteps of Wolves.
Hamburger Abendblatt pick up on that and state that Brentford have ‘expressed their concrete interest’ in the defender.
The agent reported the price that was required, cited as €10m elsewhere, and now Brentford want to ‘check internally’ whether to make an official offer to HSV.
So far, there has been no contact with sporting director Jonas Boldt.
For the player, a move to England is not that high on the agenda, as he would prefer a move to the Bundesliga and has made no secret of that fact.
But while there has been occasional interest from Germany’s top flight, there is nothing concrete as the overall package to sign him is too expensive.
For a Premier League club like Brentford, though, that is less of an issue.
That is why Vuskovic and his management are now considering a move.
The money, plus the idea of using Brentford as something of a stepping stone where he can ‘recommend himself’ to ‘top clubs’, are factors in their favour.
For now, the player feels good at HSV both athletically and privately, but he also knows he needs to be playing at a higher level to make it into the Croatian national team.
That, therefore, gives Brentford their chance.
