Newcastle United now find themselves in 14th position in the Premier League, with Eddie Howe’s side seven points clear of the relegation zone.

It means that the club increasingly look like they’ll be staying in the top flight, and avoiding the dreaded drop to the Championship. That’s vindication for the players who joined the Magpies in the January window, and changes the outlook for the summer.

Secured Premier League status is of course crucial for Newcastle’s likelihood of being able to sign the best players in the next window.

Fichajes say the Magpies are now a possibility for AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo. The attacking midfielder, who often plays on the right, has been repeatedly linked with Tottenham Hotspur over the past year, and also with Juventus.

According to Fichajes, Newcastle see Zaniolo as an ‘interesting option’ as part of the club’s wider plans to ‘break the market’.

The 22-year-old has a contract with Roma lasting until June 2024, and without a renewal a sale this summer will look likely.
