Brighton are starting to feel the ripple effects of Igor Julio’s situation, with Brazilian clubs now actively trying to engineer moves to meet the club’s demands ahead of the summer window.

The defender is back at the Seagulls after his loan spell at West Ham. For now, he is expected to stay in Europe. However, the story around him has clearly shifted. Instead of pushing for a move now, clubs in Brazil are already planning for July.

Growing interest back home

Brazilian clubs are now scrambling to build the financial conditions needed to deal with Brighton, as per multiple Brazilian reports.

Palmeiras already tried earlier this year. They made enquiries but decided not to move forward, largely because of the cost. The same happened to his former club, Cruzeiro. And that has not changed. Brighton continue to insist on a permanent deal and have no interest in another loan.

There is also some confusion around the valuation. Earlier reports pointed to a minimum fee of around £6m (€7m). Now, claims in Brazil suggest something closer to £10m (€12m). Either way, it is a significant number for clubs in that market.

Palmeiras engineering move for July

The new reports says Igor Julio remains firmly on the radar of Palmeiras, and the club are now looking at ways to make a deal possible. One of the ideas involves selling another player, Bruno Rodrigues, to Cruzeiro on a permanent basis.

Bruno Rodrigues is currently on loan in Belo Horizonte, and Palmeiras have no plans to bring him back. The deal includes a purchase option worth around £4m (€5m), and club officials see that as a potential starting point to fund a move for a left-footed centre-back.

That is where Igor Julio comes in. He fits the profile Palmeiras want, and more importantly, the timing now aligns with a possible return to Brazil in the middle of the year.

What happens next

The real movement is happening behind the scenes. Palmeiras are trying to create room in the budget. Cruzeiro remain part of the chain, both as a past suitor and as a potential buyer in this setup.

Brighton, meanwhile, are holding their ground. And because of that, any deal now depends less on interest and more on whether Brazilian clubs can actually build a package that works.

This is a story for the summer. But the groundwork is already being laid.
