The Brazilian press now confirms that Newcastle United came very close to signing the Monaco left-back Jorge on deadline day.
As reported by Globo Esporte, the Magpies had agreed a fee with the French side so the player would move on a one-year loan deal.
The problem, however, was that there wasn’t enough time for the player to get a work permit, as the negotiations started too late.
The website claims that it takes longer to get a work permit in case of a loan than in case of a permanent deal, and therefore the 22-year-old couldn’t complete the move.
It’s claimed that Jorge is no longer in the plans of the Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim, and should be transfered to some other European side soon, as there are negotiations underway.
So in case he leaves on a loan, maybe Newcastle will have another chance in the next transfer windows.
