Following Bruno Guimarães’ contract extension with Newcastle United, the Brazilian media today shares some more details about this deal.
Goal Brasil comes up with a story claiming that the midfielder is set to become the third best paid athlete in the Premier League, next to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
The duo are reportedly just staying behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
That obviously makes Guimarães the best paid player at Newcastle, who now protect him with a new £100m release clause.
It’s said that following the Magpies’ qualification for the Champions League, the club see the player as a ‘fundamental piece’ and had been waiting to give him a new contract for a while. They also had his promise that he’d listen to their renewal offer before opening talks with any other side.
Regarding Guimarães’ future, Goal Brasil writes that the release clause gives no preference to any specific side, while he’s followed by the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The Brazilian’s new deal with Newcastle United now runs until 2028.
