Brazilian official Alexandre Mattos is no longer joining Reading, according to reports on Wednesday.

Yahoo’s Jorge Nicola says the director has given up on the job since it was taking too long for his work visa to be arranged.

The journalist has been following the case for a few days, claiming that Mattos was losing patience with the process.

Last week, it was reported that Mattos had a meeting with Atlético Mineiro, who offered him a job. He promised the Brazilian club he’d wait for one more week to see about the work permit issue.

According to the same journalist, Mattos has blamed Brexit and Coronavirus for the delay, which feels like an excuse. He’s been trying to sort his documentation since January, when he first reached an agreement with the Championship side.

Mattos, who became Brazil’s most famous football director for his work at Cruzeiro and Palmeiras, was supposed to manage the transfers between Reading and other clubs managed by the same owners.

Now, according to the report, he’s likely to accept the job at Atlético Mineiro.
