This season, we’ve seen the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City being linked to Benfica defender Antonio Silva.
The defender is one of the many talents who’ve come through the Eagles’ youth ranks, and is expected to be one of their big sales in the next couple of years.
The Portuguese media has been making it very clear that his potential is being watched by several European sides, with Liverpool and Manchester City among them.
It turns out that as former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen spoke to the Lisbon press this week, he spoke about Benfica’s defence and ended up making some strong comments regarding Silva’s future, claiming it’s a matter of time until he becomes a top centre-back in European football.
“They had to put the kid António Silva in, but the boy is going to be a legend,” Vertonghen told CNN (via Record).
“If he continues to do what he has been doing, he has everything to be one of the best defenders in the world within a year or two.”
Manchester City‘s interest in Antonio Silva was first reported by the French media at the start of the season, with a story saying they could fight PSG for the signing.
Then the Portuguese press came up saying Liverpool have been watching several youngsters at Benfica, and the defender is one of them.
