Borussia Dortmund should target a move for Bournemouth’s Marcus Tavernier this summer as they seek to replace Karim Adeyemi.
That’s at least according to Der Western. They present the 27-year-old as the perfect man to replace Adeyemi this summer. The latter is set to join Barcelona, leaving a hole in Dortmund’s squad to be filled.
Bournemouth star ideal
The newspaper argues that, with the proceeds of that deal, Dortmund can ‘finally go on a shopping spree’ again. They particularly need to focus on improving their forward options.
They feel the solution could in the Premier League at Bournemouth. According to them, Marcus Tavernier brings ‘exactly what BVB look for’ in an attacking player.
At 27 he’s in the prime of this career, he ‘runs his heart out’ in every game, clocking up numbers, he offers technique on the ball and has demonstrated his skills on numerous occasions in Bournemouth’s ‘deadly counter-attacking play’.
He is described as a player who has a ‘keen eye’ for his teammates but one who is capable of taking on opponents one-on-one as well. He can also, crucially, play in almost any attacking position. Then there’s the added bonus of his proficiency from set pieces, and a tendency for the occasional wonder striker as well.
€40m asking price?
All of that, of course, comes at a price. Bournemouth have Marcus Tavernier locked down to a deal until 2029, so they hold all the cards.
But there’s a feeling that a transfer would not break the €40m mark this summer. With funds from selling Adeyemi, Dortmund can negotiate a deal if they want it.
The German side could have a way in too. Marco Rose is now Bournemouth manager and was previously manager at Dortmund. He is likely to know Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, in some capacity. The lines of communication would not be difficult to open to discuss a deal.
For now, Der Western are just suggesting Tavernier as a player to target. But they make a compelling argument for the transfer idea.
