Lazio’s Mario Gila was at the receiving end of an offer from Bournemouth in the summer. Now, the Italian side are facing a troublesome situation involving the defender.

He’s become a very important player this season, also playing in midfield when needed. Lazio’s financial problems can force them into a sale, with the Spaniard’s contract running out in 2027.

Il Messaggero – relayed by La Lazio Siamo Noi, take a closer look at the 25-year-old.

They note that this could be Gila’s last season in Rome. There’s been no progress regarding a new deal and a sale is the most likely option.

In the summer, Bournemouth offered €35m to land the defender. This was delivered to Lazio by the centre-back’s entourage. The offer was rejected. Now, Gila’s valuation has reduced and this is making things precarious for Lazio.

There is an understanding that Gila is a key player. Maurizio Sarri also sees him as vital for his system. But the club’s financial situation means that a sale could become necessary in January.

The Rome club will be regretting not selling the defender to Bournemouth when the time was right. At that point, the offer on the table was also much higher.

Currently, Inter Milan are offering only €20m to land Gila. Lazio president Claudio Lotito is pushing to earn more in a bid to improve the club’s financial state.
