Bournemouth’s Luis Sinisterra has gone from likely exit candidate to apparent permanent target again in the space of a few weeks, with fresh reports from Brazil suggesting Cruzeiro are now preparing to complete a definitive deal.

That marks another twist in a story which has changed direction repeatedly in recent months.

Cruzeiro had internally decided against triggering the previously agreed purchase structure after concerns over injuries, availability and overall value. However, the arrival of manager Artur Jorge appears to have reshaped the situation dramatically.

Sinisterra returned from injury in April, gradually worked his way back into the squad and was handed a start against Bahia this weekend. The Colombian impressed in Cruzeiro’s 2-1 win, with his display receiving public praise from the Portuguese manager afterwards.

Manager pushing in different direction

Speaking after the match, Artur Jorge said: “He is indeed a player with individual quality above average. He is a player who will be important for us.”

That assessment seems to align with new reporting from local journalist Samuel Venâncio via Central da Toca.

According to him, Cruzeiro are now expected to buy Sinisterra permanently. The report states the Brazilian club had intended to acquire the winger’s rights since agreeing the initial loan with Bournemouth in August 2025.

The player will stay at the club until 2028 with an option for one more year.

That version directly contradicts the previous narrative around the player, making this another significant turn in the story.

Questions over targets remain

The latest reporting also claims the sporting targets tied to the mandatory purchase clause have already been reached. However, that raises obvious questions about what those targets actually are.

Sinisterra’s numbers since arriving in Brazil have been modest, largely because of his injury struggles. In 2026, he has made only five appearances, totalling 172 minutes. During 2025, he featured in 14 matches, playing 406 minutes, while recording two goals and one assist.

Those figures are not especially high, particularly for a clause reportedly worth €3.5m (£3m) for 50% of the player’s rights.

As a result, it is difficult to imagine the triggers being linked purely to goals, assists or starting appearances. The structure may instead involve lower participation thresholds, squad availability, medical milestones or broader appearance-based criteria.

So far, the exact details have not been disclosed publicly in Brazil.

Purchase structure already in place

As previously reported in Brazil, Cruzeiro paid €2.5m (£2.1m) for the initial loan deal.

The agreement also includes a mandatory purchase clause worth €3.5m (£3m) for 50% of the player’s rights once sporting targets are achieved. According to the latest claims, those targets have already been reached.

That would take Cruzeiro’s total investment to €6m (£5.2m) for half of the player’s rights.

The Brazilian side would then retain the option to purchase the remaining 50% for another €5m (£4.3m), potentially bringing the total package to €11m (£9.5m).

Off-pitch signs adding to expectation

There are now additional indications that Sinisterra may be preparing for a longer stay in Belo Horizonte.

Journalist Pedro Rocha reported that the Colombian recently purchased a property in the city, adding that Cruzeiro are expected to confirm the permanent signing in the coming days.

However, Sport Witness had already covered back in September that Sinisterra bought a mansion in the region shortly after arriving in Brazil. We’re not sure if it is the same house or if he is just moving to other spot.

Either way, at the time, that move was already being viewed locally as a possible indication that the winger intended to remain at Cruzeiro beyond his initial loan spell.

Whether Bournemouth had always expected this outcome behind the scenes remains unclear. Publicly, the situation had recently pointed in the opposite direction.

Now, after strong impressions under Artur Jorge and renewed confidence around the player, the picture appears to have shifted yet again.
