The football world is full of regrets over transfers, either ones done or failed, and for Bournemouth it’s the latter when it comes to Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson.
AS cover his rise this season after a failed move to Bournemouth in the January transfer window, something which the Cherries must now be bitterly disappointed with.
They explain that Bournemouth ‘decided to cancel’ an agreement for the footballer after striking an €25m deal with Villarreal to sign him late in January.
All the terms of the deal had been worked out, including a ‘significant salary increase’ for the player before medical examinations revealed a hamstring injury.
Disappointed by the failed transfer, Jackson returning to Spain, where he held a conversation with manager Quique Setién, who was determined to ‘give him encouragement and raise his self-esteem’.
That seemingly worked as Jackson battled back to fitness and ‘polished’ certain aspects of his game, something which has been paying off in recent weeks.
He has become ‘one of the most decisive’ players in La Liga, with five goals in seven games and a return to his best level of form.
That has ‘aroused the interest’ of several Premier League teams and everything seems to indicate he will be on the move at the end of the season.
Should that happen it is likely to be for more than the €25m Bournemouth could have paid in January, a deal they are likely wishing they hadn’t cancelled.
