AFC Bournemouth are leading the race to sign Elche CF’s Álvaro Rodríguez this summer.

The striker joined the La Liga side from Real Madrid in July 2025 and finished his debut season with seven goals and five assists.

He was born in Spain but changed his allegiance to Uruguay. He represented their U20s but didn’t make it Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for the World Cup.

Bournemouth frontrunner to sign striker

Álvaro Rodríguez’s performances have caught the attention of several European clubs in recent weeks, including Bournemouth.

That’s according to AS, who have a report focusing on the Premier League side’s interest. The race to sign him has begun and the Cherries are currently the frontrunners.

They have informed the player’s agent of their willingness to pay over €20m and this puts Bournemouth ‘in best position’ to secure the frontman’s services.

Elche CF, led by their owner Christian Bragarnik, want to push for more mainly because of his potential. They also have to share part of the fee with his former club, Real Madrid, who hold 50% of his rights.

AS state other unnamed clubs from Italy and Germany have made contact for Rodríguez.

In January, Sport Witness relayed news of PSV Eindhoven having him as an option to replace Ricardo Pepi. The latter was supposed to join Fulham, but the deal collapsed in the winter market and for the summer.

It’s unclear whether the Eredivisie side are still keen on signing him.

Eli Junior Kroupi, Evanilson and Enes Ünal were the three strikers at the Premier League side this season.

Kroupi, who scored 13 goals, is attracting interest from Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and several other clubs. Rodríguez could be an option if he or the other two strikers were to leave Bournemouth.
