After failing to get Paul Pogba in the summer transfer window, Real Madrid remain keen on adding a new midfielder to their squad in future.

With Toni Kroos and Luka Modric quickly approaching the end of their careers, Madrid’s midfield needs updating, and Pogba is the man they want.

However, should they be unable to get him, which could prove to be the case, it appears that Plan B is Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté.

Last week we covered a report that stated Madrid were going to try and get Kanté courtesy of a deal including cash and Gareth Bale.

That came from El Desmarque, and they’ve now suggested a different deal may be on the cards, this time including James Rodríguez.

According to the outlet, Kanté is a dream signing for Zinedine Zidane, who wants him to compete with Casemiro in the defensive midfield slot, and Pérez is planning to use Rodríguez to get him.

It’s explained that Chelsea value Kanté at €160m, while Madrid value Rodríguez at €65m. Thus, the La Liga giants plan to offer Chelsea €100m plus Rodríguez to try and sign the Frenchman.

There’s no mention of whether Chelsea would find that acceptable, but Roman Abramovich would have the last word on the transfer.

Kanté, for his part, ‘dreams of wearing white’ and leaving Chelsea because he believes the project has stalled and they will not be competing for titles under Frank Lampard.

Of course he does…
