Earlier this month, Chelsea parted ways with Graham Potter and appointed Frank Lampard as their interim manager until the end of this season.

The Blues have started the process of finding Potter’s permanent successor and they have made significant progress in their regard, if Marca are to be believed.

After several meetings, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is ‘close to finding’ a manager to lead his new project at the west London club. It’s claimed Mauricio Pochettino is set to become the Blues’ new manager.

According to the report, there were meetings between the former Southampton manager and the Premier League side last week.

The two parties have been sorting out last fringes of the deal, which were related to the Argentine’s backroom staff and the role they will have rather than the finances or the duration of the contract.

He has been without a job since leaving Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the 2021/22 season. The 51-year-old has insisted that he needs the support of the club to take a new project.

Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann were also targets for but Pochettino is the one who has convinced Boehly the most. Therefore, the meetings with him have intensified to find an agreement and create an ideal scenario for the ex-PSG boss to arrive at Chelsea.

Pochettino wasn’t interested in joining Chelsea when Boehly approached him to replace Thomas Tuchel last September.

Marca state: ‘He did not consider that it was the ideal moment, but the approach made from Chelsea is very different now, hence the point of agreement is about to be signed.’

The agreement between Chelsea and Pochettino is ‘about to be signed’, which is why Boehly is ‘close’ to making the South American as Potter’s successor.
