Birmingham City January signing Carlos Vicente has admitted he’s been blown away by the club’s fans, and the facilities behind the scenes.

Noticias de Alava have an interview with the winger this week following his move from Alaves to Birmingham in January.

The 26-year-old joined the Blues in an €8m deal on January 27th, his first ever move outside of Spain. Rather than being handed a slow introduction, he was then handed his debut four days later in the 2-0 win over Oxford United.

That saw him getting an eye-opening introduction to English football. He got a taste of a place like the Kassam Stadium. He was impressed, but more so by Birmingham City’s away support.

Can’t wait for Birmingham City’s home support

“It’s one of the smallest fields in the category, but it really does,” he said when asked about English pitches and their ‘mystique’.

“It’s crazy how they live football, and I was blown away even with just over 10,000 people. There were many of our supporters. I really want the match this Saturday in our stadium to arrive because it has a capacity of more than 30,000 people.”

The move to Birmingham City is undoubtedly the biggest one of Vicente’s career to date. He’s previously had spells with Zaragoza U19s, Deportivo Aragon, Gimnàstic, SD Ejea, Calahorra, Racing Ferrol and then Alaves in Spain.

Carlos Vicente impressed by BCFC facilities

The Blues have big financial backing behind the scenes. They’ve set their sights on a return to the Premier League after 14 years away.

There’s been investment across the board, including behind the scenes, where they’ve heavily invested in updating the training facilities to a higher standard. That’s certainly impressed Vicente.

“Yes, it shows,” he added, about the differences.

“There will be few sites in Spain that have the facilities that are here. It’s crazy at every level.”
