Atalanta have been handed a major blow ahead of their European double-header against Liverpool, with key defender Giorgio Scalvini ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Tutto Atalanta cover the player today and how an injury in his left hamstring is set to rule him out for about a month.
They explain that Scalvini is set to miss the whole of April after suffering an injury to the muscle-tendon junction in his left hamstring, and injury that will require an extended period on the sidelines.
He is now set to miss the double header against Liverpool, with the Reds hosting the Italian side at Anfield in the Europa League quarter-final on 11th April before then travelling to the Gewiss Stadium for the second leg a week later.
There is the possibility he will return at the beginning of May for the next round of the competition, but that would require beating Liverpool and is a ‘complicated’ scenario either way.
The absence will be a big blow for the Italian side, who has made 34 appearances in all competitions for them this season and over 80% of the minutes in the league.
Whether his absence will be felt in the clash with Liverpool remains to be seen but it’s undoubtedly a big blow for their European hopes.
