Good news Blackburn Rovers fans, Arnor Sigurdsson says you’re not the worst club of his career so far.
Fotboll Skanalen have an interview with the Malmo midfielder today. And rather than going on a very easy rant about Blackburn Rovers, it seems he held back.
He joined Rovers in 2023, initially on loan from CSKA Moscow. That lasted until the January transfer window, when Blackburn decided to make his move permanent that month.
Sigurdsson spent the next year at the club, making 41 appearances for the club in total with eight goals and five assists before he joined Malmo on a free in February last year.
Given the numbers involved, some would argue that his time at Blackburn Rovers wasn’t up to much. It would certainly be easy to see Sigurdsson agree with that fact. There’s very little evidence to suggest otherwise.
Blackburn Rovers spell not so bad
Fotboll Skanalen were certainly prompting him to go in hard. But, instead, Sigurdson decided to take a different approach to the questioning.
“No, I wouldn’t say that,” he said when asked if Blackburn Rovers were the club that treated him the worst.
“My time at Blackburn was special, as the first season was incredible with Jon Dahl Tomasson at the beginning. I really felt that I showed my quality and showed that I can play at that level. Then a lot of injuries followed the following year and a new manager.
“My contract was up when I was injured in February and they didn’t know how long I would be injured, so then it was agreed that I wouldn’t stay. Blackburn is not that club.”
Instead, Sigurdson appears to have very fond memories of his time at Ewood Park. Living in England gave him the chance to watch Premier League football.
He’s an Arsenal fan, while his mum is a Liverpool fan and his father is a Tottenham fan. But it was Manchester United who he ended up watching most.
“I’m an Arsenal fan, so I watched a few matches,” he added.
“I lived in Manchester at the same time, so I was also at Old Trafford. It’s fun to watch the Premier League, as it’s the best league in the world.”
