Called up to the DR Congo squad where he was hoping to pick up a new cap, Jacques Maghoma will have to wait a little bit longer to achieve his goal.
According to ADIAC-Congo, which is the main information agency for Central Africa, four players, including the Birmingham City winger, will miss out on the fixture against Algeria on Thursday evening.
It’s not stated why the Championship player will miss out on the game, as the article only states ‘various reasons’ for his absence and that of three others (Merveille Bope, Dieumerci Mbokani and Marcel Tisserand).
That leaves Christian N’sengi Biembe, the DR Congo manager, with just 22 players to choose from to face Algeria, and we will be keeping an eye out for any updates on the Birmingham man, as him missing out on the second game against Ivory Coast on October 14th could point towards an injury.
For the time being, Foot RDC make it clear that ‘no medical alert’ has been given for Maghoma, so that should reassure potentially worried fans.
So far, the 31-year-old has featured five times for Birmingham under Pep Clotet, the most recent coming in a 13 minute cameo off the bench against Middlesbrough.
