On Friday morning, Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote that even though time is running out for Atalanta to sign Jordan James from Birmingham City in January, the Serie A side were still sitting in a comfortable position in the negotiations.
That’s because the Blues could feel forced to make the sale, both because they may need to bring a couple of reinforcements with that money to improve their campaign in the Championship, as well as due to the player’s wish, as he’s said to be keen on the switch.
It’s first recalled that James had been ‘one step away’ from making the move, as he agreed the salary worth €800k which was proposed by the Serie A side. The problem is that the Blues request €8m and won’t change that.
Birmingham reportedly told Atalanta they’d give a discount if they get to keep the player until the end of the season, and that was rejected by the Italian club, who want him now.
That’s what holds the deal up, and unless either of the clubs give in, or the requested fee is paid, the player is expected to stay in England.
