Birmingham City signed Willum Willumsson from Go Ahead Eagles in July 2024. He was a regular under Chris Davies in his debut season at St Andrew’s.

The attacking midfielder managed seven goals and nine assists from 48 matches. He was a key member of the Blues squad that secured a promotion to the Championship.

Davies hasn’t relied upon him regularly this season as Willumsson played 395 minutes from 10 league matches. This would have convinced Birmingham City to part ways with him in the winter market. They have already made an attempt to get rid of him

Last week, Go Ahead Eagles CEO Jan Willem van Dop confirmed rejecting the 27-year-old after he was offered by the English club. NEC Nijmegen then come forward to sign him.

Four days ago, the Dutch press reported NEC Nijmegen are considering a late move for the Iceland international.

On Thursday, De Telegraaf reported the Birmingham City player is a concrete option for the Eredivisie side. De Gelderlander stated the negotiations with Davies’ side are proving difficult

A fresh report from De Gelderlander now provides the latest on NEC Nijmegen’s efforts to sign Willumsson.

The Dutch club have made advances to sign Werder Bremen’s Isak Hansen-Aarøen. The German club should release him after their league tie against Borussia Mönchengladbach later today.

The newspaper immediately mentions the Birmingham City player. According to them, NEC Nijmegen have good prospects of securing his services before the window closes on Monday.

Willumsson has attracted interest from several clubs. There’s no mention of their details, but he has ‘expressed his preference’ to join NEC Nijmegen. De Gelderlander further add the latter will buy him from Birmingham City.

NEC Nijmegen are optimistic of concluding this operation, provided there are no late twist in this case.
