Hertha BSC have ‘recently contacted’ Birmingham City striker Marvin Ducksch about a return to Germany this summer.
BILD report that the 2. Bundesliga side have reportedly enquired about the 32-year-old and spoken to his agents.
Birmingham City striker’s agents contacted
The newspaper explains that RTL/ntv initially reported that the Berlin club had enquired about the Birmingham striker. According to BILD’s information, the German club only recently contacted Ducksch’s representatives.
Their understanding is that Ducksch was already a target for Hertha before this season. Whether a transfer can happen this summer remains to be seen.
The striker has ten goals for Birmingham City this season and is under contract until 2028 but, according to BILD, he could leave St Andrew’s for ‘a small transfer fee’ this summer. He cost the Blues €2m last summer, so perhaps that is the fee being looked at.
Hertha would like him to help fire them back to the Bundesliga. They’re third this season but a point behind SV Elversberg in second, and level on points with Paderborn in fourth.
Promotion scoring campaign
Even if they were to secure promotion, he could be the goalscorer they need next season. If it’s another promotion race, he has experience of that too.
Ducksch achieved the feat with Werder Bremen in the 2021/22 season. The striker scored 20 goals that season. Hertha would be open to a long-term partnership despite him now being 32 years old.
He would be a replacement for Dawid Kownacki, who is set to return to Werder Bremen in the summer transfer window. That loan deal coming to an end has led to Hertha pursuing Ducksch.
Whether the Birmingham City striker wants the move, remains to be seen. The move to Birmingham last summer was his first outside of England and he may be reluctant to give up on that so soon. Hertha, though, have been in contact with his representatives regardless.
