Birmingham City want to offer Palermo’s Kristoffer Lund a quick escape route this summer.
The Dane left Sweden’s BK Häcken for the Serie B side in 2023 and spent last season on loan at 1. FC Köln.
He made 33 Bundesliga appearances, but that wasn’t enough to convince the German club. FC Köln didn’t exercise their €3m purchase clause and he’s already returned to his parent club.
Birmingham City taking necessary steps
The Championship side are working on signing him. That’s according to Bold, who claim the Blues are in talks with the Italian club for the left-back.
Bold further add ‘work is now underway’ so that the two clubs can find an agreement to finalise the deal.
There’s no mention whether Birmingham City are negotiating for a loan or permanent transfer.
The report also doesn’t specify whether Kristoffer Lund is open to joining the English club. This should be clarified if the two clubs agree terms.
No future at Palermo
Since returning to Palermo, their manager, Filippo Inzaghi, didn’t include the fullback in his squad for the two pre-season friendlies against FC Ingolstadt 04 and 1. FC Nürnberg.
This is a clear message to Kristoffer Lund that he has no future at the Italian club, even though he has a contract until 2028. Transfermarkt value him at €4m.
Palermo agreed a €3m purchase clause with 1. FC Köln. If it’s a permanent move, Birmingham City could try to sign him for less than €3m.
Should Lund move to St. Andrew’s, he will meet his compatriot, August Priske. The 22-year-old forward joined the English club from Djurgårdens IF in January.
