Birmingham City’s Jhon Solís arrived at St Andrew’s from Girona on a loan deal in the winter market.

The Colombia international struggled for a prominent role at the La Liga side and wanted out.

Back in January, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Birmingham City paid a loan fee of €500k, with an €8m conditional purchase obligation.

Chris Davies has regularly used the midfielder, who has played 1,143 minutes from 17 matches.

His Championship stats are as follows:

  • Appearances: 16
  • Starts: 12
  • Total minutes played: 1,029
  • Minutes per game: 64
  • Interceptions per game: 0.6
  • Tackles per game: 1.3
  • Possession won (final third): 0.1
  • Recoveries per game: 4.4
  • Clearances per game: 1.5
  • Blocked shots per game: 0.3
  • Duels won per game: 3.8

On April 23rd, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that everything indicates he will extend his stay with the English club.

Earlier this week, we relayed news of both Leeds United and Brentford interest in the 21-year-old. The Premier League duo are keeping a close watch on him ahead of the summer window.

Birmingham City make decision

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover the latest on Jhon Solís’ future.

Sierra insists Birmingham City are ‘very happy’ with the Girona owned player’s displays and development so far.

The Blues have a ‘clear intention’ to make the South American’s stay permanent and will hold fresh talks with the Catalan club in the coming weeks.

Barring a last-minute twist, Solís’ future after this season should be at Birmingham City.

Our take: Permanent stay gives stability

The Blues buying Jhon Solís will allow him to be clear on his long-term future. Chris Davies has given him regular minutes so far and that’s likely to continue after this season.

If that were to happen, it gives the midfielder stability and will allow him to continue making progress at Birmingham City. Transfermarkt value the player at €2.5m.
