Birmingham City are close to securing a deal to sign Allsvenskan top goalscorer August Priske from Djurgårdens IF.
That’s according to Tipsbladet. They report that Birmingham have put themselves ahead of Besiktas and Lille for the striker.
According to their information, Birmingham City are ‘leading the race’ for Priske’s signature. They are also close to agreeing personal terms with him.
Djurgården are close to reaching an agreement. The negotiations between the two clubs are said to be progressing positively. It’s a similar story for the negotiations between Priske and the Blues.
In fact, negotiations are at such an advanced stage that he is set to miss a training match against Swansea City this evening. There is no mention of the fee that the Blues will pay in Tipsbladet’s report. They, though, point out that RB Salzburg saw a €4m bid rejected in August. Priske’s price has only risen since that point.
Birmingham City drop January transfer bomb
Expressen back up their information. They too report that Birmingham are leading the hunt for the striker. Indeed, the newspaper state: ‘A January bomb is about to explode in the Swedish league’
The two clubs are negotiating a deal for the 21-year-old and an agreement is close. ‘Several sources’ have also told the Swedish newspaper that Priske is close to agreeing personal terms with the Championship side.
That itself is interesting as Priske has previously indicated he would only leave in January for the right club. He was previously linked with Besiktas, who now appear to have fallen behind Birmingham City.
But he played down any rumours, insisting only a deal that suited him and Djurgården would work.
“It must still be the right situation for me and Djurgården. I’m not in a hurry. I’ll see what happens. It will be exciting to see what’s to come,” Fotboll Skanalen report him saying. That right offer now appears to have come from St Andrews.
Had been predicted to beat Lucas Bergvall record
In October, Djurgården sporting director Bosse Andersson said he believed Priske would be sold for more than the €20m Tottenham Hotspur paid for Lucas Bergvall.
“Yes, I’m completely convinced of that. Yes, he will beat Lucas Bergvall anyway. Otherwise, he will play in Djurgården in 2026. I think August Priske will go to a really big club.”
Birmingham City probably aren’t paying quite that much.
