In the past few months, we’ve repeatedly seen Manchester United and Newcastle United linked to Sporting defender Gonçalo Inácio.
The 21-year-old is showing big potential for Sporting, and that’s why he made his national team debut last week, having started for Portugal against Liechtenstein.
That led the French media to say Paris Saint Germain are following the player. And now, Portuguese newspapers A Bola and Jornal de Notícias come up to recall that the English clubs may offer some competition to the Ligue 1 side.
What both outlets do is to point out that in recent months, Manchester United and Newcastle had been named as potential destinations for Gonçalo Inácio.
Something interesting comes from A Bola, who say Sporting are working to renew the defender’s contract and make his release clause go from €45m to €80m.
That means they have the ‘intention’ of making Gonçalo Inácio’s sale the biggest in the club’s history, surpassing Bruno Fernandes, who left for Old Trafford for €55m.
It’s recently been said by the Portuguese media that the defender may not be very interested in joining Newcastle, as he seeks a bigger club and that would give Manchester United an advantage.
