Davis Curiale has revealed that he had an opportunity to join Leeds United earlier in his career.
The 36-year-old has been with Serie D side Terracina Calcio 1925 since last year. He has been speaking to the Italian media about his failed move to Leeds and his comments are relayed by Tutto Frosinone.
According to Curiale, Leeds made an approach when he was at Frosinone between 2013 and 2015. The current Serie A side were then in the second division, and the Whites were in the Championship.
The Italian managed 14 goals and six assists in his first season at Frosinone, and nine goals and an assist in his second and final season with them.
Curiale claims the English club made an approach, but the deal didn’t go through, without specifying the reason for it.
“The biggest regret of my career was at Frosinone: in January I was top scorer in Serie B, I could have gone to Leeds, then everything fell through. I ended up at Trapani and Frosinone rose to Serie A,” he said.
Frosinone were promoted to Serie A in 2015, meaning Leeds would have tried to sign the attacker earlier that year, at a time when Italian businessman Massimo Cellino was the owner at Elland Road.
Curiale’s career may have looked different had he managed to seal a move to Leeds United.
