Tottenham’s refusal to open the chequebook for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has been criticised after he turned down a move to the club to remain at the Dutch champions.
Slot looked set to become the new Tottenham manager in the coming days after a report yesterday indicated he wanted to make the move this summer. However, that fell away by this morning when it was revealed he had instead decided to stay where he was and turn down Daniel Levy and co.
That has naturally led to a whole load of comments on the situation, with journalist Hans Kraay Junior the latest to share his opinion, according to MSN.
Reports earlier today have made it clear that the crux of the matter appeared to be money, with Feyenoord making it clear that they wanted a big price to let their championship winning coach depart.
That figure was quoted as being as high as €20m in some corners, a figure Tottenham did not want to match despite their desperate need to find Antonio Conte’s replacement.
That’s something Kraay Junior cannot understand, questioning why the club are so happy to spend big on transfers but not a manager.
“That is the biggest joke of the last decade,” he said.
“Those Londoners throw €300m into the gutter like that, but for a desired coach they offer €7m. If I were Mrs Rafaela Pimenta (Slot’s agent) I would say: never again call with such a pittance.”
