Islam Slimani’s transfer from Leicester City to Sporting collapsed, according to reports from Portuguese newspapers today.
A couple of local outlets say the Lions weren’t able to find a deal to have the striker back in their squad.
One of the stories comes from O Jogo, and they say the big problem was the salary.
It’s claimed that Slimani makes €2.8m per season at the Foxes, and even though he accepted to cut it in half, that was still too much for Sporting.
Newspaper Record talks about this money issue as well. The Lions couldn’t find a financial agreement even though Leicester City were willing to let Slimani go for free.
However, Record says the salary wasn’t the only problem.
It’s also claimed that manager Ruben Amorim thought Slimani wouldn’t fit their playing style very well.
The striker’s contract with Leicester City expires in 2021, and if they were ready to let him go for free now, we can already see him walking from the club next summer.
