Newcastle United star Nick Woltemade has admitted he’s in love with the song fans have adorned him with. But he appears to be more impressed by Malick Thiaw’s.
The Newcastle pair have been speaking to Sky Germany about life at Newcastle. The pair both arrived in big money moves this summer and have quickly established themselves as key players under Eddie Howe.
While Woltemade has been scoring regularly, helping to quickly get over the loss of Alexander Isak, Thiaw has fitted seamlessly at centre back. He’s also been on the scoresheet too, recently bagging a double in the 4-1 win over Everton.
Woltemade also scored in that game and moments like that have quickly endeared them to the Newcastle United faithful. The pair have certainly been impressed, already likening the club to Schalke in Germany.
As is often the case, they’ve already been given their own personalised chants, which have been heard regularly already this season as both players have impressed for Newcastle at various points.
Big Nick’s welcome to Newcastle moment

That’s a new experience for both players, who, after careers in Germany and Italy, aren’t accustomed to that sort of treatment. Woltemade is certainly a fan, although he appears to like Thiaw’s more than his own.
“For me, for example, it was my first game,” he said when asked about his ‘Welcome to Newcastle’ moment.
“I scored right away, and then they were already chanting my name. You just don’t get that in Germany; players being celebrated like that. I think it’s really nice for both of us. Our names are chanted a lot. And we’ve got some great songs too, which is pretty cool.
“Yes, I’d say so too, the fan chants for us are truly unique,” added Thiaw.
“Malick has a very, very good one. Mine’s okay too. Malick has one like ‘Bella Ciao’ – only with ‘Malick Ciao’. It’s really good,” concluded the striker.
You know what to do, Newcastle United fans.
