Bristol City January signing Noah Eile has admitted that promotion from the Championship is the number one goal for him this season.

He’s been speaking to Fotbol Skanalen about his €4m move and his plans for the future after his arrival from America.

The 23-year-old had been in America with New York since January 2024 after an €875,000 move from Malmo in his native Sweden. He went on to make 72 appearances for the MLS in that time.

His appearances clearly caught Bristol City’s eye, with the Robins splashing the cash in a €4m deal on deadline day. That deal made Eile their fourth most expensive signing of all time.

Eile arrives to boost a potential promotion push this season. Bristol City are currently 8th in the Championship o 46 points. That pouts them just a point behind Wrexham in sixth place, the final play-off spot.

Their new signing wants to help however he can, and when asked if the Premier League is the goal, wasn’t afraid to admit it.

Promotion from Championship is the goal

“It’s a big city with a lot of supporters, so of course that’s the goal,” he said.

“But as I said before, it’s tight. There are a lot of teams with a lot of resources fighting for it, so it’s tough. But of course, that’s the goal, it would be strange otherwise.”

Eile may not go straight into the team, although Bristol City coach Gerhard Struber rates him highly. Reports in England have stated he believes their new signing has great potential.

But he will also likely be reluctant to break up his current team. Or introduce a new player too quickly given the differences between the MLS and the Championship.

Eile accepts that and admits he’s just happy to be a part of the journey the Robins currently find themselves on.

“Mostly that it will be fun to be part of this journey,” he said when asked what he ‘expected’.

“It is tight at the top of the table, as is so often the case in the Championship. You want to try to be there and help as much as possible to hopefully reach the play-off places first and foremost – and from there anything can happen.

“That is the goal, to help the team in any way I can. I am looking forward to that.”
