Marcelo Bielsa has ‘rejected’ an offer from Everton, according to reports from Argentina.
Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo says the coach had the chance to replace Frank Lampard at the Goodison Park, but turned down the job.
It’s claimed that Bielsa ‘showed interest’ in taking charge of Everton, and even ‘negotiated’, but ‘ended up considering that it was best to give up on it’.
Merlo doesn’t bring any details on the reason why the coach chose to turn them down despite opening talks for the position, although they might be easy to guess considering the Toffees’ situation.
Bielsa has been unemployed since leaving Leeds United in February this year.
He spent nearly four years in charge of the Whites, leaving them with 81 wins, 30 draws and 59 losses in 170 matches.
It’s well known that he likes to engage in serious projects, and that may have been an issue during the negotiations with the club.
The Argentine boss had been reported as one of the main targets Everton had to replace Lampard, who was sacked by the club earlier this week.
According to the latest stories, other options the Goodison Park have on the table are Sean Dyche, Wayne Rooney, Duncan Ferguson and Marcelino Garcia Toral.
