RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has insisted he was not a part of conversations to take him to Manchester United but is happy to be at the German club anyway.
Sesko has been speaking to Transfermarkt’s Austrian edition regarding his start to life in Germany, links to Manchester United and various other subjects.
The striker joined Leipzig in a €24m deal from RB Salzburg this summer after four years with the Austrian club, who he joined for €2.5m in 2019.
After a loan spell at Liefering he returned in 2021 and didn’t look back, bagging 29 goals and 11 assists in 79 games to make him the latest rising star at the club.
That saw him quickly being linked with big clubs all over Europe, including Manchester United, who were on the hunt for the next young striker to develop themselves.
They had previously missed out on Erling Haaland and were seemingly determined to avoid making that mistake again, with numerous reports linking them with a move for Sesko as a result.
That never happened, though, as they instead signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta and Sesko headed to Germany with Leipzig, a situation he thinks was good for his career.
“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations,” he said when asked about Manchester United’s interest.
“But I think it was better to come here. It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football.
“I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again. It would be nice to play there (the Premier League). But for now, let’s focus on the now and then we’ll see.”
