Ajax will be hoping that several clubs come in for Brian Brobbey in the summer alongside Manchester United, so his price ramps up as it did with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, who says Ajax will be hoping of a repeat of what happened with the defender before he ended up at Tottenham.
Van de Ven joined Tottenham in a €40m deal from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer following months of speculation about his future at the German side.
He had impressed in the Bundesliga and earned himself a growing list of admirers as a result, with Liverpool heavily linked and believed to be seriously considering a move before Spurs eventually secured him.
That speculation and interest saw him price rise and Verweij says Ajax will be hoping for the same scenario when it comes to Brobbey.
He’s been impressing for the Dutch side this season, with 17 goals and four assists in 27 games so far indicating he is back to his best.
That’s put him on the transfer radar once again and Manchester United are believed to be keen, with numerous reports indicating they could make a move and the player even being forced to answer questions on the matter.
A move is not expected to happen before the end of this month, but Verweij believes Manchester United may end up in a tussle, something Ajax would be hoping for.
“The best thing that can happen to Ajax is that several English top clubs come,” he said.
“That happened with Micky van de Ven, do you know him? With Van de Ven, Liverpool and Spurs suddenly started showing interest, so then the price goes up.
“Then you can sit back like Kelvin de Lang, who is now doing the transfers at Ajax. Then the price will go up automatically. I think he will really yield a lot.”
